As I walked across a bridge over the Petawawa River, I noticed that the vehicle crash barrier at the side of the road was supported by square wooden posts, each of which contained the central rings from its tree of origin. The posts told a story of age and weather and service. I didn’t try and remove the rusty steel barrier or the pieces of gravel spat up from the road from each image. They were perfect just as they were.
